Maybe by getting up earlier or rescheduling your workouts, you will find that you feel a lot better. With that said, let’s have a look at six concrete tips you can try out to see if they work for you. Don’t forget, try it out for a week or two before deciding it’s not for you, a change in routine needs time to stick!
1. Wake Up Earlier
Always a good one to try out, waking up earlier will allow you to get things done earlier, which may be able to give you that energy boost you’ve been looking for. Also, rising with the sun (or thereabouts) can give you more energy, as well. We are diurnal animals and aligning ourselves with the sun is how we evolved. For the next week or two try setting the alarm an hour earlier and see how it works for you.
2. Put Off Communication
Another oldie-but-goodie: Don’t communicate with the wider world for a while after waking up, anywhere between 15 minutes to an hour. That includes switching on the computer or TV and watching the news; this is about letting you adjust to the new day in peace and quiet without the world intruding on some quality you-time. There is so much information coming at us these days from monitors and screens that it can be good to wait until you’re fully awake before dealing with it.
3. Be Thankful
This may seem a bit cheesy to some, but it is really a good exercise to get into a positive frame of mind. Take a minute at some point in the day to be grateful for everything you have, from your house to your spouse to your job to your possessions to the fact that you have food on your table, etc. Doing this every day will make you more happy on the whole and more able to keep going even in times of adversity.
4. State Your Goals
In extension of the earlier point, take a moment every day to state your goals, to sit down and reaffirm for what or whom you’re doing it all. If you’re feeling low or apathetic, you can boost yourself back up by realizing that you’re ultimate goal is coming closer. Looking at the big picture puts everything into perspective and you should do it every day.
5. Eat
Eat. It’s that simple. Eat regularly and well and all other problems will disappear as snow before the sun. Make sure you get a regular helping of power foods and other healthy items and make sure you get them at regular intervals. Space your meals well and you’ll never go hungry or suffer from low energy. Most importantly, though, is never skip breakfast. Never. You need that food to get started, so make sure you eat it every day.
6. Exercise
Last but not least is making sure you get plenty of exercise. Try establishing a daily workout into your routine. It doesn’t need to be some form of cross fit, self-flagellation. A quick and simple routine to get your blood pumping will do just fine. Working out gives you tremendous energy and makes you feel great. Do it regularly and you can handle anything!
