10 Steps To Stop Worrying About Tomorrow And Live For Today

Worrying is part of our daily lives. For us humans it is as natural as breathing. We do it instinctively without a conscious thought as to whether it is good or bad for us and our minds.

Did you know that most of the things we worry about may not ever happen? So why do we worry? – Because we don’t feel in control of our lives or a particular situation. We can’t predict what the outcome will be so we live in fear of the negative. What do we gain from it? – A story that will justify where our life currently is and that that is an okay place to be (no matter how unhappy we may be).

“Worry is like a rocking chair: it gives you something to do but never gets you anywhere” – Erma Bombeck

Here are some positive ways to stop you worrying about tomorrow and get you living for today:

1. Clear Your Material Possessions

We are great hoarders and love keeping hold of anything and everything that triggers a memory for us. From school reports to the dress we will fit back into when we lose weight. By holding on to these material things you are creating stagnant energy around yourself and stopping yourself from moving forward. So declutter your home and make space for something new to come in.

2. Stop Worrying

You cannot fully enjoy today if you are worrying too much about tomorrow. Realize that tomorrow is going to happen whether you worry about it or not and as worry has never accomplished anything for anybody, redirect your mental energy to something more productive.

3. Wake Up Each Morning With A Smile

You are in control of your attitude every morning so keep it positive and be in control of your day, rather than the situations you experience.

4. Forgive Your Past Heartaches

Harbouring resentment towards someone else only keeps you in pain and stops you and your life from moving forward. Make the choice to forgive the situation and move on. Don’t allow it to impact your life and where you want to go.

5. Don’t Live With Regrets

Having regrets in your life, of all the things that you have yet to do and yet to accomplish, only builds up anxiety and fear about the present and what the future may bring. Let go of the “what ifs” in your life and focus on the present. Only then will you being to appreciate the positivity and happiness in your life.

6. Start With Small Changes

It is not necessary to make big changes in order to start living in the moment. You can start by integrating new habits one at a time and then add something else. For example, instead of trying to meditate for 20 minutes per day right away, start by trying to meditate for 3 minutes per day and slowly increase your time as you become more comfortable.

6. Embrace Life’s Challenges

Everyone in life faces challenges. They cannot be avoided but how you deal with them is important. So choose to let go of the negative and focus on the positives of what life throws your way. You will gain far more strength in yourself and who you are.

7. Do One thing At A time

We all have a to-do list that is never enough to fit into one day. We can also end up doing a lot of little things but not actually completing anything. So set yourself a task daily to fully complete something from your list every day.

8. Let Go Of Control

Whatever has happened, whatever others say, whatever the state of the economy or weather may be, you are not in control of these. Realising that 90% of what you worry about is beyond your control, will allow you to focus and deal with the things that you can fix.

9. Practice Gratitude

Being grateful helps to bring you to the present moment because you are focused on the thing that make you grateful and how it affects you in the here and now. Being grateful also helps to ground you and show you how lucky you are.

10. Allow Life To FlowPin It

Trust in life and the way things will be unfolding. When you allow your life to flow and not resist every little thing that is happening; that’s when you start to live in and accept the present moment. When you are in this state – the most unexpected wonders can happen.

Living for today and letting go of tomorrow is a mental choice that we make because we have been taught to strive and achieve and always plan and work towards our tomorrow. Planning for tomorrow is a good thing but learn to be in the present so that you can enjoy the journey to your future.
