How To Define And Measure Your Success

By Bridget Webber
Updated January 15, 2015

Most people want to be successful in life, but comprehending whether they have reached their aim is hard. Sometimes, having a misguided definition of success clouds matters. Understanding what success means to you personally can help you ascertain how far you really are up the ladder of achievement.

What Is Success?

People often imagine that success means owning a flashy car, commodious home and being able to send their children to a private school.

Indeed, if you achieve a high stand of living in a material sense, you may consider yourself successful.

Nonetheless, looking deeper into what success means to you may help you understand what you have done, or need to do, in order to feel successful.

The key to realizing success is in the word ‘feel,’ since showing that you are accomplished is different from knowing it on the inside where it matters most.

Consider what genuinely makes you recognize, in your heart, that you are an achiever. Perhaps knowing that you are loved and cherished is the key. Alternatively, maybe your success stems from following a calling and understanding that you are carrying out important actions.

Only you can decide how to define success because it can be thought of in numerous ways.

Climbing The Ladder

Success is often described as a ladder because it is thought of as a journey.

Reaching your destination can take time, or be a lifelong experience because it never ends.

Indeed, if you always want to better yourself, you may find that your ladder expands to accommodate the extra rungs required for growth.

If you do not think that you have climbed far, do not worry, as it is never too late to advance.

Just make sure that you have an accurate definition of success for which to aim and create a plan.

Plan For Success

Once you know what you want, you can form a goal and steps to take on your journey.

One method of clarifying a goal and identifying steps is to picture yourself at the top of the ladder. Imagine what success feels like and how you will behave as a successful person.

Notice the conditions that are in place.

For instance, what is your lifestyle like? What do you do each day? With whom do you interact? When you have a clear picture of what it is like to lead a successful life, reverse the situation. See yourself traveling rung-by-rung back down the ladder. What are the steps that you took to reach your aim?

Herein lies your plan.

Feel Gratitude For Your Success

There may be a long journey ahead, but you are already successful in countless ways.

Whether you have helped others in a practical sense, formed happy relationships or inspired people to achieve their aims, you are successful.

Celebrate your achievements now. The more you tune into the vibrational frequency of achievement and gratitude, the easier increasing your success will become. Mentally list all of the aspects of your life for which you are appreciative.

You will realize that your journey is in full swing and gain self-belief.

Pin It Most importantly, do not measure your success against anyone else’s.

You are on a unique voyage with its own twists and turns that cannot be compared to others.

You will know that you are on the right track because you will experience success in your heart instead of recognizing it in a paycheck or by the size of your home.
