“Your attitude is like a box of crayons that color your world. Constantly color your picture gray, and your picture will always be bleak. Try adding some lighten up”. ~Allen Klein

This week, I had the honor of interviewing Mr. Keith L. Brown, a motivational speaker known as Mr. I’m Possible (obviously taking the word impossible and changing it to the positive I’m Possible).
He was such a powerful interview in that he speaks so positively and has a natural ability to make you feel good.
I am known and been a firm believer in the power of positive thinking.
Our brains are wired in such to think as they do and most of us believe we have no power. But science has proven that we can turn our brains around from negative to positive thinking.
This has effects on attitude, productivity, and most important, health.
Of course, it is so easy to say and so hard to do. One of the key concepts is that you want to be positive in the face of adversity. You may naturally be a negative thinker or as I used to call myself, a realist.
That’s easy to do because negative thinking is usually outward in. We allow what is happening around us to affect our reactions. If we are pushed to think positive, we must work at it to let it come from the inside out.
Luckily, science has given us suggestions and ways we can think in a positive manner, even in the face of bad times, such as what bullying brings us.
1. Read Positive Affirmations
When we focus our brains to look at positive news instead of negative news, our brains help us to focus on those things. On that note:
2. Stop Watching The News
The news is filled with many negative things going on in the world. You start to believe it as does your brain. Use an aggregator on your computer to read positive news. It really does work.
3. Control Anger And Worry, Don’t Let It Control You
Here’s another leap of faith. You must believe that you are in control of your mind, not your mind in control of you. When you are worried or angry, you don’t feel like you have control. But stop and breath for a few minutes when you feel this way.
Count to ten. After a bit of time, you’ll even question what you were worried or angry about in the first place.
4. Keep A Gratitude Journal
You may feel that you have no positives in your life. There is good and bad every day. Get a journal and at the top of the page, write “I’m Thankful For…” Then each day come up with three good things that day. I like to write mine at night.
You’ll find that there is good, even in a bad day. Even if the only thing you can think of is that your alive, you’re breathing, and you made it another day.
5. Exercise
I know I sound like a broken record as I talk about exercise, but it works both psychological and physiological. Your brain releases endorphins that make you feel more positive. You will feel better about yourself as you strengthen your body.
It’s a win-win, even if all you do is take a walk. Do something.
As always, this is just the tip of the iceberg. But I know, when I was being bullied, this would have helped me just to have someone tell me I could think my way to feeling just even a bit better.
There are no miracle cures, just work to help you through your journey that you are on. Always remember that “this too shall pass” and you have the power within to make your own difference.
